Do you live in a rural village or a Town in Suffolk Coastal?

Do you find it difficult to get to college, to the shops, medical appointments or to visit your friends and family in the county?

Suffolk County Council is working in partnership with Suffolk Community Transport Operators to help by Connecting Communities.

When you need to make a journey and there’s no public transport available to you locally, we’ll collect you and rc drone connect you to an appropriate bus route or train link for onward travel so you can reach your destination quickly and easily.

For journeys where connecting to other services is inappropriate, end to end journeys may be possible.

So, how do you use it?

Bus Service

  • Operates Mon – Saturday 07.00 to 19.00 (subject to restrictions)  Not Bank Holidays
  • Available to general public
  • Pre-booking is required up to 14 days in advance
  • Same day bookings available subject to availability
  • Bus fare rates - concessionary passes accepted
  • Endeavour Card accepted
  • Connection to trains and onward buses available 
  • End to end journeys may be available where no alternative public transport is available
  • Wheelchair accessible (advise on booking)

Door to Door

  • Based in Leiston, Woodbridge, Felixstowe & surrounding areas
  • Home to shops, surgeries, friends etc.
  • Disabled, mobility-impaired or elderly & rurally-isolated people eligible
  • Membership registration required
  • Minimum 24 hours’ notice of journey
  • Book up to 14 days in advance
  • Fixed price Zones up to 15 miles
  • Travel Vouchers accepted (no concessionary bus passes accepted)
  • All vehicles wheelchair accessible

Community Car

  • Available for people unable to use public transport and without own vehicle
  • Home to shops, hospital, surgeries, social visits etc
  • Not wheelchair accessible (uses drivers private cars)
  • Cost 45p per mile from drivers address
  • Minimum 48 hours notice

Wheels within Wheels

  • Wheelchair accessible MPV
  • Home to hospital, holiday, respite, shopping or social visit etc
  • Cost 45p per mile
  • Minimum 48 hours notice

Vehicle Hire

  • For local community groups
  • Wheelchair accessible MPVs and minibuses (max 16 seats)
  • Days, evenings and weekends
  • CATS volunteer drivers if  available 
  • Hirer's driver subject to training and approval 


CATS well qualified trainer is available to provide the following training to organisations operating their own minibuses or wishing to provide their own driver to hire CATS vehicles:

  • Minibus Drivers Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) for minibuses, MPVs and cars (as required)
  • MiDAS Passenger Assistant training
  • Emergency Aid
  • 5 Steps (Emergency vehicle evacuation)
  • Disability Awareness
  • Manual Handling – passengers

Training can be provided at your own premises or off site.   Saturday training may be available.
